The following is a poem written by a second grade student in my class. Her inspiration - she made it up...but the voice I feel is powerful. I would like to publish this...Teachers, do you have any ideas as how I go about doing this?
Loneliness
I'm sad today
lonely
No one wants to play
with me.
Today's just a bad day.
No one will talk to me
No one will come to me
I don't know what's wrong with me?
I didn't do anything wrong did I?
I try to talk to people but they don't talk back to me.
I didn't do anything gross did I?
I don't know what's wrong with me today?
I guess it's just a bad day today.
They're just playing but not
with me.
Thoughts and comments? PLEASE leave a comment if you can...my student was really excited when I told her I was putting it on my blog.

Wow! That's really deep for a 2nd grader! Good job, girly!
I have no clue how to publish anything...wish I could help ya there!

What a gift she has.
I would recommend the following:
1. Highlights Magazine is always taking poems.
2. Go on line and goggle Childrens Poetry Contest. There are some pretty good ones.
Please tell her that I am proud of her.
What a powerful poem. I think your student is a real poet and writer. I love when students write their feelings down. I think it helps them to put confusing feelings into words! Please tell her how many people she has reached with her words for me.
You can tell her what a fantastic poem she wrote--it's so hard for people to be honest, even in writing. I always tell my kids they can write to feel better...did this help her feel better? She's very smart to be able to know how she feels AND write it in a poem!
Oh dear, I can tell the counselor in me is coming out because I didn't even think about what a gifted writer she is.... I was just concerned about her heart. Was it really JUST a bad day.... does this little sweetie have good days, too?!! :)
Praying for you as you prepare for Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a powerful poem! Please tell your student that she moved me to tears-which is what good poetry does.
I hope this young lady has a better day.
